Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Tumxuk in Bachu County, Xinjiang. The Tumxuk Fm is derived from the Tumxuk Gr proposed by Zhao Zhixin in 1987. Zhou et al. (1990) renamed the Tumxuk Gr as the Tumxuk Fm.

Synonym: (吐木休克组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Formation is composed of gray, dark gray calcirudite and purple nodular calcarenite. In the type area, the Tumxuk Fm is 130 m thick.

Clayey limestone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the white limestone of the Yijianfang Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain by the thick-bedded calcirudite and calcarenite of the Lianglitag Fm

Regional extent

The Tumxuk Fm is exposed only on the northwestern margin of Tarim platform.

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields conodonts of P. serra assemblage, P. anserinus assemblage, B. variabilis assemblage, in ascending order, nautiloid of Dideroceras wahlenbergi- Trilacinoceras assemblage and additional trilobite Calymenesun.
